The Mule Heels Trend Edit

Clockwise, starting from top left: Topshop Premium mules £75, Christian Louboutin leather and suede mules £745, Pier One suede sandals £33, 3.1 Philip Lim leather mules £370, Sarenza wedge mules £101, Whistles pointed mules £150, Office block heel mule £65, Gianvito Rossi colour-block suede and cork mules £455.

When I first saw mule heels pop up here and there,  I wasn’t too sure. There’s something about shoes that are not quite open, yet not quite closed that can seem odd at first. But after noticing ‘it girls’ like Sienna Miller and Jennifer Lawrence wear them and seeing Vogue declare them “the summer’s hottest shoe” I have concluded that this is going to be the next ‘it-shoe’ (after the lace up flats craze dies down). These are great to wear with a 70s inspired outfit or a little white summer dress. My favourites are the colourful Louboutins – a girl can dream, right? – but I might just go for the more practical Pier One pair (which looks exactly like Sienna’s!).

What do you think about mules?
What about clogs? Now that’s a whole other story…
